Principal Consultant – EU Health & Life Sciences Policy

Role 

We are looking for a Principal Consultant – EU Health & Life Sciences Policy to lead and grow our EU health portfolio. In this role, you will work at the forefront of EU policymaking in areas such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technologies, and the bioeconomy. 

Based in our Rotterdam office (or another Ecorys EU location), you will lead high-impact policy studies, evaluations, and impact assessments for clients including the European Commission, European Parliament, and EU agencies such as EMA and ECDC

You will combine thought leadership, project delivery, and business development, taking responsibility for winning new work, managing large EU projects and frameworks, and ensuring excellent analytical quality. You will also play a key role in developing people, strengthening client relationships, and shaping the strategic direction of our EU health portfolio. 

What you will do 

  • Lead EU policy projects in health and life sciences, including evaluations and impact assessments. 
  • Advise EU institutions with robust, evidence-based policy and regulatory analysis. 
  • Drive business development and build long-term relationships across the EU policy landscape. 
  • Grow and position our EU health portfolio in existing and emerging markets. 
  • Mentor of multidisciplinary project teams and possibly manage consultants. 
  • Oversee quality, budgets, and commercial performance. 
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, and staff development across Ecorys. 
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across our European offices. 

 Your profile 

  • 10+ years’ experience in research consultancy, including 5+ years in EU health and life sciences policy. 
  • A strong record in winning and managing EU contracts, including tenders and framework contracts. 
  • Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas: pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technologies, or the bioeconomy. 
  • Experience leading international, multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex EU projects. 
  • Solid methodological expertise in evaluations and impact assessments under the Better Regulation Guidelines. 
  • Confidence in client and stakeholder engagement across the EU policy landscape. 
  • A Master’s degree or higher. 
  • Excellent English (additional EU languages are a plus). 
  • A strategic, entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to grow business, develop talent, and deliver impact.
